Since Don joined Plant in 2001, he has focused his efforts on our most challenging and complicated seismic retrofits. By working hard to understand at the outset of a project what each stakeholder is trying to achieve, he collaborates early with owners, architect, engineers, and trade partners, engaging them in problem-solving processes including the development of means, methods, and achievable sequences of construction, the reduction of project costs through consideration of alternatives, and continuous cost modeling. Once under construction, Don is known in the company as a “builder,” and is able to make the right decisions at the right time. Don fosters cooperation by respecting the value each team member brings to the table. He drives collaboration throughout the entire process from preconstruction through construction and closeout, resulting in projects that achieve budget goals and are handed over to the client at their target date.

As a member of the Code Advisory Committee for the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection, Don leverages his significant seismic experience as a Civil Engineer to assist them with revising and writing new building ordinances.
