Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive

Designed by world-renowned architecture firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro in partnership with EHDD, the new Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive is a dynamic combination of the 1939 Art Deco-style University of California printing plant and a new addition encased in a sweeping metal skin. The project involved complex shoring and underpinning to renovate the existing 50,000 SF building and construction of the 30,000 SF addition. The new facility features museum galleries, PFA film theater, viewing rooms, a seminar room, a participatory arts lab, library film study center, works on paper study center, a cafe and store, and administrative offices and back-of-house operations. The project achieved LEED Gold certification.
